For high-temperature environments over 150 °C, one should use formulations that are specifically designed to resist oxidation and can maintain structure under extreme heat. One should also consider the flash points and dropping points of the grease to determine its thermal limits. For example, synthetic grease offers a superior performance over a much wider range of temperatures in comparison to other mineral oil-based greases. They are known for providing excellent protection in extremely cold and high environments and ensuring reliable lubrication. Synthetic greases are also preferred over mineral-oil based ones for HT applications.
- Load Bearing Capacity and EP Additives: In the industrial environments, film strength is a critical aspect. If the equipment operates under heavy load or shock pressure, a grease with strong film strength and extreme pressure (EP) additives is essential. Thus, it is important to start with the OEM’s recommendation guide and then proceed to select a high-quality grease that perfectly matches those conditions and specific requirements of the application. Various reputable brands are available that are certified by NLGI. These certifications can help the equipment officers to narrow down reliable choices that genuinely meet the heavy-duty performance requirements. When the products are certified by NLGI and OEM, it provides an assurance that the grease is independently tested and meets the industrial standards. This reduces the risk of product failures as well.
